Thoughts on today’s GOP

I am blown away! NEWSMAX, a website whose editorials today include “Obama’s War on Chrisianity” and an argument to privatize Social Security from Tea Party founder, Dick Armey, is sponsoring a GOP Presidential debate that will be moderated by Donald Trump!

Form your own opinions, but I’ll offer mine: this is emblematic of a party who is going to have an uphill bitch of a time convincing 50% or more of Americans that their relationship with reality isn’t as tumor-ridden as that between Herman and Gloria Cain.

Barack Obama will be President from 2012-2016. I’d known that already, but now I feel comfortable shifting more of my attention to congressional races.

I’m not a Democrat. Never have been, likely never will be. I didn’t vote for Obama in 2008. Cults of personality make me puke, and he’s nothing other than a politician. But I’ll probably ride a horse or maybe even a unicycle to the poll to vote for him in 2012. Earlier this year with the debt “talks,” the GOP demonstrated fascinating ignorance and truculence, highlighting their unfitness to lead this country (or even a lemonade stand.) Their party’s bones have osteoporosis and the prognosis is straight-up terrifying.

So, thank you to Newsmax, Donald Trump, and the are-you-kidding-me crop of GOP candidates for granting me permission to turn my attention elsewhere. But - that attention won’t shift to a new target until I watch a debate I can genuinely say I’m looking forward to more than “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.”
